Depression

The death of the actor Robin Williams have been the news everywhere. Many people are mourning his death on the internet. He was a great actor that made everyone laugh and feel good. He was a comedian and a clown that provided millions of people with laughters and smiles. But deep inside, he was a depressed comedian.

Depression is a mental illness that affects many of us. It doesn't discriminate age, gender, race, religion, etc. Many people suffer from depression yet there is still a stigma about it, which is the main reason why people don't get help. Depression isn't just a feeling, it owns you. it is a mental disorder after all. It is not just simple sadness. Some symptoms of depression include low self-esteem, crying for absolutely no particular reason, addiction, insomnia, weird dreams, feeling unmotivated, you lose interest in activities you used to enjoy, your feelings are numb, just to name a few.

unfortunately, This is how a lot of  people view depressed people. (Credits:tumblr)

I, myself suffer from depression. I always feel alone, that nobody cares about me. I feel guilty that its my fault. I wasn't doing too well in school. I even was on a trip where i'm supposed to enjoy it and have fun, but to me it was over whelming and crying was my only solution.

People diagnosed with Depression do not appreciate hearing things like: "Cheer up" , "Get over it", you're probably just stressed" and things similar to that. Sometimes a genuine small conversation will make them feel SO uplifted.

If you're not feeling yourself, depressed, sad. You're not alone. Believe it or not there are a lot of other people who are in the same boat as you. People care about you. there is at least one person in this world that cares about you! And if you think there isn't anybody who care, I care! Please, Suicide is never the answer. It is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, you'll pass pain to other people.

Seek help, talk to someone. If you're at school, talk to a counsellor, teacher, friend.

  1. "Suicide is never the answer" I really like that sentence, it is very true. Who knows what happens after you suicide, chances are you might even go to a sadder a place. And YES you are NOT alone! No matter how much you feel guilty, alone or nobody cares about you, there is always someone there who knows exactly what you feel, are there for you and are more than willing to happily help you. The only time you should feel guilty is that time you let yourself suffer in silence without talking about it to anyone. Great article Emily, keep them coming! Very inspirational!
